She was the daughter of Alexander Diack and Anne Ledingham.

She married David Couper Dempster on 25 Dec 1862 at First Church, Dunedin, New Zealand. He was born on 7 Aug 1832.

They had 6 children: John Gordon Diack Dempster, Mary Ann Dempster, Elizabeth Dempster, Georgina Dempster, Isabella Dempster and William Dempster.
